- All appointees to the University Park Student Fee Board are now filled and the fiscal year for the budget will end this summer.
- Faculty Senator Star Sharp discussed the diversity issues around faculty that was brought up in the Faculty Senate meeting with the President such as how the only area of Penn State that has not become more diverse is in the faculty ranks.
- As of right now, there is no mandatory vaccine rule for next semester for students coming back to campus.
- In New Business, Jennifer Jackson was appointed as GPSA’s new Faculty Senator. Ama Agyapong and Frankie Urrutia-Smith were appointed as an At-Large Delegate and College of Liberal Arts Delegate, respectively.
- Bill 70-02: GPSA Communications Manager was passed which authorizes GPSA to hire a Communications Manager to assist in maintaining GPSA’s social media accounts, updating the GPSA website, and holding the regular weekly office hours posted outside the GPSA office.
- Bill 70-03: Orientation Materials was passed which authorizes the purchase of materials such as bags, magnet clips, and more to hand out at every graduate and professional student orientation for the Fall 2021 semester in an effort to better advertise to students who may not have heard of the organization before.
- Bill 70-04: Welcome Back Picnic was passed which goes into planning a welcome event in the Fall 2021 semester hosted by GPSA to build a sense of community among graduate and professional students by offering them the opportunity to enjoy each other’s company while sharing a meal and participating in recreational activities.
- Bill 70-05: Writing Boot Camp was passed which is designed to support graduate and professional students in meeting their writing goals by providing a quiet and supportive writing environment during the Fall 2021 semester.
- Bill 70-06: Night of Remembrance was passed which co-sponsors an annual event to honor current Penn State students who have passed away each year.
- Resolution 70-01: Addressing the Safety of our Trans Community at Penn State was passed which is in response to the increased stigma, rejection, and discrimination of transgender and gender diverse individuals recently.
- Resolution 70-02: Statement of Support for the BRIDGE Diversity Alliance was passed which addresses the disadvantage some students are at when it comes to RIDEPass discounts and how it disproportionately affects international students/students of lower socioeconomic status.
Due to technical difficulties with the special presentation, the meeting kicked off with executive reports. President Schönn Franklin had a meeting with the Office of the Board of Trustees about GPSA’s relationship with the Board of Trustees in the future. He also went through the interview process for the University Park Student Fee Board and how all appointees and seats are now filled. Treasurer Matthew Billups said they are still concluding events from the 70th Assembly and the fiscal year for the budget will end this summer.

Since details about in-person events during Fall 2021 are still unclear, GPSA will plan an in-person event whenever recommended by the University.
Bill 70-05: Writing Boot Camp was passed which is designed to support graduate and professional students in meeting their writing goals by providing a quiet and supportive writing environment during the Fall 2021 semester. There will now be both virtual options in addition to the non-virtual bootcamp.
Bill 70-06: Night of Remembrance was passed which co-sponsors an annual event to honor current Penn State students who have passed away each year. All four student governments help organize this event so GPSA will contribute one quarter of the total cost of the pre-recorded livestream that will be done by WPSU for the 2021 Night of Remembrance.
Resolution 70-01: Addressing the Safety of our Trans Community at Penn State was passed which is in response to the increased stigma, rejection, and discrimination of transgender and gender diverse individuals recently. At Penn State specifically, trans individuals are one of 18 the most vulnerable groups on campus when it comes to mental health as well as are faced with many obstacles when changing their names. This resolution outlines a recommended course of action to help transgender and gender diverse individuals such as making ADA accessible, single use, gender neutral restrooms in all buildings and more.
Resolution 70-02: Statement of Support for the BRIDGE Diversity Alliance was passed which addresses the disadvantage some students are at when it comes to RIDEPass discounts and how it disproportionately affects international students/students of lower socioeconomic status. GPSA supports the demands of the BRIDGE Diversity Alliance, and calls upon the Penn State administration to modify its policy on eligibility of RIDEPass discounts to allow all graduate students to easily access CATA bus services.
In committee updates, all committees are excited to get started on events this Assembly, the Community Outreach committee are planning events like volunteering for a blood drive in June and the Professional Development committee is brainstorming ideas for professional development events as well. Chief Justice Sam Altland encourages everyone to re-read their by-laws and constitutions as we enter this new Assembly.
